In a bold move against tax evasion, Bengaluru’s Regional Transport Office (RTO) clamped down on a Ferrari owner who was cruising the city’s streets without paying Karnataka’s road tax.
The culprit? A sleek red Ferrari SF90 Stradale, with a jaw-dropping starting price of Rs 7.5 crore, which had been turning heads in the city for months. On Thursday morning, Bengaluru South RTO officials tracked down the Maharashtra-registered supercar and confirmed its tax-dodging status.
The vehicle was promptly seized, and the owner was slapped with a notice demanding immediate payment by evening, with legal action looming for non-compliance. Wasting no time, the owner coughed up Rs 1,41,59,041 in dues and penalties to settle the matter. RTO officials hailed this as one of the largest single-vehicle tax recoveries in recent times.

The department vowed to keep up the heat on luxury vehicles flouting tax rules. Earlier this year, in February, a similar operation saw 40 RTO officers seize 30 high-end cars, including Ferraris, Porsches, BMWs, Audis, Aston Martins, and Range Rovers, for similar violations. Bengaluru’s streets may be a playground for the ultra-rich, but the RTO is making it clear: no one rides tax-free.
