In a major blow to the illegal drug trade, Assam’s Cachar district police seized drugs worth Rs 12 crore and arrested one peddler in a targeted anti-narcotics operation. The raid, conducted in the Kathalbasti area near Kathal Bye Pass, resulted in the confiscation of 40,000 Yaba tablets, a potent drug containing methamphetamine and caffeine, known as "crazy medicine" in Thai. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the breakthrough, commending the police for their precision and swift action.
Sarma took to X to share details of the operation, stating, "High hopes, hard fall. Rs 12 crore drug seized! In a precise anti-narcotics operation at Kathalbasti, @CacharPolice seized 40,000 Yaba tablets and arrested one peddler." He praised the Assam Police, adding, "Great job, @assampolice," as the seizure marked a significant victory in the state’s ongoing battle against drug trafficking.
Yaba, classified as a Schedule II substance under the Controlled Substances Act, is illegal due to its highly addictive nature and dangerous effects. The operation underscores Assam’s commitment to cracking down on narcotics networks that threaten public safety. Authorities have initiated necessary legal procedures against the arrested individual, whose identity has not been disclosed, as the investigation continues to uncover potential links to larger drug syndicates.
