The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), which functions under the Union Education Ministry, has issued a show-cause notice to Al-Falah University in Faridabad after the institution came under scrutiny due to its alleged association with doctors linked to a terror network. The notice questions the university’s accreditation claims and demands clarification on why disciplinary action should not be initiated for misrepresenting its NAAC rating.
According to the notice, Al-Falah University’s website listed ‘A’ grade accreditations for its School of Engineering and Technology and School of Education and Training, even though both accreditations expired years ago. The engineering school’s ‘A’ grade was valid until 2018, and the education department’s rating expired in 2016. The notice also revealed that neither wing had applied for a renewal or “Cycle-2 Assessment” with NAAC since then. The accreditation body has directed the university to remove all claims of NAAC ratings from its website and submit proof of compliance within seven days.
Citing serious discrepancies, NAAC Director Ganesan Kannabiran signed the notice, seeking an explanation from the university on why it should not face disqualification from future accreditation assessments. The letter further warns that NAAC may recommend to the University Grants Commission (UGC) to withdraw the institution’s recognition under Section 2(f) and 12B, and suggest to the National Medical Commission (NMC) the revocation of recognition for its medical programs. Meanwhile, Al-Falah University’s website was found inaccessible at the time of the notice’s circulation.

The controversy deepened after three doctors from Al-Falah School of Medical Sciences and Research Centre were allegedly found linked to a terror plot involving explosives recovered from Faridabad and a deadly blast near Delhi’s Red Fort that claimed 13 lives. According to investigators, Dr Umar was driving the car that exploded near the Red Fort, while Dr Muzammil and Dr Shaheen have been taken into custody in connection with the recovery of weapons and explosives. The developments have brought the university under an intense spotlight.
Al-Falah University’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor (Dr) Bhupinder Kaur Anand, released a statement expressing shock over the incident and condemning the acts in question. She clarified that the university has no organizational connection with the accused doctors beyond their professional roles. Condemning what she described as false and defamatory reports circulating online, Anand added, “The University is deeply saddened by these developments and condemns any attempt to malign its reputation. Our thoughts are with all those affected by this tragic event.”
