Former Tamil Nadu BJP Chief K Annamalai has officially resigned from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), ending weeks of speculation about his future in the organisation. The former IPS officer announced that he would now embark on a new political journey, describing the move as the "next phase" of his public life and calling on young people and ordinary citizens to join his proposed political movement.
The resignation came after a series of meetings with senior BJP leaders in New Delhi aimed at addressing concerns raised by Annamalai. Despite efforts by the party leadership to persuade him to stay, he decided to part ways with the BJP in what he described as a cordial separation. Soon after his exit, Annamalai changed his social media profile to identify himself as "a common man in search of good politics."
Addressing supporters following his resignation, Annamalai outlined his vision for a people-centric political platform. He said his movement would focus on bringing politics closer to ordinary citizens and challenging what he called the culture of "permanent MLAs and MPs." Emphasising the role of youth in shaping the future, he urged common people to actively participate in public life and governance.

A key part of Annamalai's political roadmap is participation in the next Lok Sabha elections. He announced that his new outfit would contest parliamentary polls in Tamil Nadu and work towards creating an alternative political space in the state. According to him, the movement will prioritise grassroots engagement and seek to nurture a new generation of leaders rather than relying on established political structures.
Annamalai acknowledged that building a new political organisation from the ground up would be a challenging and time-consuming process. He stressed the need for patience, discipline and steady growth, saying the movement would be developed step by step. He also indicated that the initiative would seek support from individuals who are dissatisfied with traditional political models and are looking for a fresh approach to governance.
The development marks a significant shift in Tamil Nadu's political landscape, where Annamalai had emerged as one of the BJP's most prominent faces in recent years. His decision to launch an independent political movement is expected to attract attention ahead of future elections, with observers closely watching whether he can translate his personal popularity and public appeal into a viable political force in the state.
