The mortal remains of Zubeen Garg, the celebrated Assamese singer known as the "King of Humming," were brought to Guwahati airport from Delhi on Sunday, September 21, 2025, before being taken to his residence. The iconic artist, who captivated millions with his soulful voice and cultural contributions, tragically passed away in a scuba accident in Singapore on September 19, 2025.
Across Assam, emotional fans gathered to honor the memory of their beloved singer, lighting candles and offering heartfelt tributes. The outpouring of grief underscored Garg’s immense influence as a cultural icon, filmmaker, and cherished performer, whose songs like Ya Ali resonated deeply with audiences.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Union Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita paid their respects to the late singer at IGI Airport in Delhi. CM Sarma announced that Garg’s body would be kept at the Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah Sports Complex in Sarusajai, Guwahati, on Sunday from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM, allowing fans and well-wishers to offer their final tributes.
In a statement shared on social media, the Assam government described Garg as “an artist larger than life” and called for a dignified farewell, urging the public to ensure a memorable send-off for “Assam’s beloved son.” In response to the profound loss, the Assam government declared a three-day state mourning period, during which no official entertainment, ceremonial programs, or public celebrations will take place.
