With counting day scheduled for May 4 after polling concluded across all 234 Assembly constituencies on April 23, Tamil Nadu’s two major political forces—the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK)—have intensified their preparations by activating dedicated “war rooms” to monitor and manage real-time developments during the counting process.
Both parties have reportedly set up centralised control systems designed to coordinate closely with candidates, counting agents, and district-level party representatives stationed across the 62 counting centres designated by the Election Commission of India. These war rooms are expected to function as operational command hubs, ensuring immediate communication and rapid response to any issues that may arise during counting.
AIADMK leaders said they have established a detailed communication network linking candidates and agents with key administrative officials, including Returning Officers, District Collectors, and Superintendents of Police. According to party functionaries, the system is intended to allow immediate escalation of any irregularities or procedural concerns to the party’s central coordination team, ensuring swift intervention where required.

The DMK, meanwhile, has deployed a parallel setup with an additional legal oversight mechanism. Party sources said legal experts and senior coordinators have been assigned to closely monitor counting procedures and address any disputes or discrepancies that may arise. The objective, according to insiders, is to ensure strict compliance with electoral rules and to respond quickly to any allegations of irregularities.
Both parties’ heightened preparedness reflects lessons from previous elections, particularly the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly polls, where several constituencies were decided by narrow margins of fewer than 1,000 votes. That experience has led to increased vigilance this time, with parties seeking to avoid any last-minute confusion or procedural lapses during counting.
The upcoming counting is also being closely watched due to the politically competitive environment and the presence of multiple parties influencing voter dynamics. Strategists from both DMK and AIADMK believe that vote splits and closely contested constituencies could lead to unpredictable outcomes in several regions. As counting day approaches, both parties appear to be leaving nothing to chance, with their organisational machinery fully activated to ensure continuous monitoring, rapid communication, and immediate response capability throughout what is expected to be a closely fought electoral outcome in Tamil Nadu.
