Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and his deputy, DK Shivakumar, sought to quell escalating speculation over a potential leadership change by emphasizing their united front and harmonious working relationship. Following a meeting at Shivakumar’s Bengaluru residence—their second in four days—Siddaramaiah stated unequivocally that there were no differences between them and that they would continue to run the government together in coordination.
The speculation stemmed from reports about a purported power-sharing agreement made in 2023, which suggested Shivakumar would assume the Chief Minister’s post midway through the five-year term. This narrative fueled further chatter when over a dozen Congress MLAs allegedly met AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge to endorse Shivakumar as the next CM, prompting Siddaramaiah to meet with party leadership to discuss the issue.
Addressing these developments, Siddaramaiah reiterated his commitment to following the Congress high command’s direction on leadership matters, stating clearly that any change would occur only when the party commands it. Shivakumar also dismissed claims of internal factionalism and insisted that the party’s MLAs remain united without any internal dissent.

The leaders also discussed upcoming government activities, including preparations for the legislative session starting on December 8 in Belagavi and coordinating Karnataka MPs’ visit to Delhi to raise state issues during the Parliament session. Siddaramaiah left decisions on any cabinet reshuffle or leadership changes to the party’s high command.
As the Congress prepares for discussions at the highest level, the public assertions by Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar underline their intent to present a cohesive front and maintain stability within Karnataka’s government until the party’s leadership makes its final call.
