US Secretary of State Marco Rubio visited Reliance Industries Limited’s (RIL) sprawling industrial complex in Jamnagar on October 21, 2026, where discussions covered energy cooperation, technology and potential commercial partnerships between India and the United States. Accompanied by US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor, Rubio spent several hours at the facility, which houses the world’s largest single-site oil-refining complex. The visit formed part of his India trip, aimed at strengthening economic ties and exploring opportunities for collaboration with major Indian businesses.
Reliance Industries Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani and Executive Director Anant Ambani welcomed the US delegation and briefed them on the company’s long-term plans for the Jamnagar complex. The discussions focused on the global energy landscape, reliable and affordable energy supplies, technological advances and resilient supply chains. Reliance also highlighted opportunities for US companies to work with the conglomerate in areas including engineering, advanced manufacturing and emerging technologies.
Rubio and the delegation were given an overview of Reliance’s new-energy manufacturing facilities, which are being commissioned in phases, as well as data centres under construction. The discussions examined the growing relationship between energy infrastructure and digital technology, particularly the need for dependable power to support data centres and the expansion of the digital economy. Reliance is also developing a 168-megawatt data centre in Jamnagar in partnership with Meta, with completion planned over the next two years.

Energy cooperation was a major focus of the visit, particularly as Washington seeks to expand markets for American energy and encourage greater processing of Venezuelan crude by Indian refiners. Reliance’s Jamnagar facilities have a combined crude-processing capacity of approximately 1.4 million barrels per day and can handle a wide range of crude grades. Rubio had earlier described India as a refining superpower, underlining the strategic importance of its refining industry amid changing global energy markets.
The visit also highlighted Reliance’s expanding investments in clean energy and advanced manufacturing, areas that could offer opportunities for closer cooperation between Indian and American companies. US Ambassador Sergio Gor said American liquefied petroleum gas exports to India had increased substantially over the past year, making the United States India’s largest LPG supplier. He also pointed to Reliance’s planned investment in a new oil refinery in Texas as an opportunity to expand US energy production and create jobs. The discussions come as New Delhi and Washington continue efforts to strengthen trade and economic relations, with energy security, technology and investment emerging as key areas of mutual interest.
