Ola CEO Bhavish Aggarwal has launched a new initiative, ‘Kya Chal Raha Hai?’—a Hindi phrase meaning “What’s Going On?”—to streamline communication and track employee progress across his companies.
Under this initiative, Ola employees are required to submit a weekly report summarizing their key achievements in 3-5 bullet points. These updates must be shared with their respective managers and a designated company email, Kyachalrahahai@olagroup.in. The first reports were expected immediately after the announcement, and going forward, all reports must be submitted by Sunday end of day.
The move appears to mirror a recent directive by Elon Musk, who mandated that US federal employees submit weekly work reports. Ola’s CEO seems to be taking a similar approach, emphasizing greater transparency and accountability within the organization.
According to an internal memo, employees must use the email subject line “Weekly updates” when submitting their reports. The memo further stated, “We’re starting ‘Kya Chal Raha Hai?’—a simple way to share your weekly updates directly with me and your managers, starting today.” Employees were urged to send their first reports as soon as possible, with the official email ID set to go live within hours of the announcement.
As Ola rolls out this initiative, it remains to be seen how employees will respond and whether the policy will enhance efficiency or contribute to workplace stress. The announcement comes amid significant restructuring at Ola, with reports indicating that the company recently laid off around 1,000 employees across sales, distribution, and marketing.
With ‘Kya Chal Raha Hai?’ in place, Ola aims to foster a culture of transparency, but its long-term impact on employee morale and productivity is yet to be determined.
