Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad, has been placed under a strict security lockdown ahead of high-level talks between the United States and Iran scheduled to begin on April 10. Authorities have intensified security measures across key government zones, with military personnel, rangers, and police deployed throughout the city’s Red Zone, which is now under the control of the armed forces for the duration of the negotiations.
The district administration has significantly expanded the Red Zone perimeter, stretching it from Zero Point to Faisal Mosque and encompassing critical state institutions such as Parliament House, the Presidency, the Prime Minister’s Office, and the Diplomatic Enclave. Only official vehicles will be permitted entry into this high-security area, while government employees working within the zone have been directed to work from home. Section 144 has also been imposed in Islamabad and nearby Rawalpindi, prohibiting public gatherings of five or more people.
In preparation for the talks, authorities have declared a two-day public holiday in both Islamabad and Rawalpindi, resulting in the closure of schools, colleges, and courts. A comprehensive traffic management plan has been implemented, with major routes such as Islamabad Highway and Srinagar Highway set to be temporarily closed during the movement of foreign delegations. Additionally, heavy vehicles have been restricted from entering the city to ensure smooth and secure transit.

The talks have also drawn significant international media attention, with dozens of journalists applying for visas to cover the development, highlighting the global importance of the upcoming negotiations.
