India and Switzerland are taking center stage in defining global artificial intelligence (AI) governance as leaders from around the world convened at the AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi. The two nations are collaborating on frameworks aimed at ensuring ethical, responsible, and transparent AI deployment across industries.
The summit, now in its fourth day, has drawn participation from top policymakers, technology CEOs, and international experts. Discussions focused on establishing global standards that balance innovation with societal safeguards, including data privacy, algorithmic accountability, and human-centric AI design.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Swiss Federal Councillor Karin Keller-Sutter jointly highlighted the need for multilateral cooperation in AI governance. “AI has the power to transform economies and societies, but it must be guided by rules that protect citizens while promoting innovation,” Modi said during his keynote address.

Industry leaders, including Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, and representatives from other major technology firms, emphasized collaboration between governments and private sectors to mitigate risks associated with AI, such as bias, misinformation, and job displacement. Experts underscored that proactive regulation is essential to avoid the unintended consequences of rapidly evolving AI systems.
The summit also showcased emerging AI innovations from India and Europe, with sessions dedicated to AI in healthcare, education, and sustainable development. Delegates discussed how standardized policies could help countries leverage AI responsibly while remaining globally competitive.
Observers note that India’s and Switzerland’s efforts could set a precedent for other nations seeking to implement ethical AI frameworks. As global AI adoption accelerates, such collaborations may define the international norms that govern artificial intelligence in the coming decade.
