The war of words between BJP national spokesperson and senior advocate Gaurav Bhatia and Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) co-convenor Saurav Das continued on Thursday following a hearing in Bhatia’s defamation suit before the Delhi High Court. The court asked Das and fellow CJP co-convenor Ashutosh Ranka to remove certain allegedly objectionable social media posts concerning Bhatia. The dispute came before the court after Bhatia initiated defamation proceedings over posts published by Das and Ranka. During Thursday’s hearing, their counsel assured the court that the posts in question would be taken down within 24 hours.

The development followed discussions before the court on the removal of content that Bhatia had alleged was objectionable and defamatory. The Delhi High Court, however, did not immediately impose a blanket restraint preventing Das and Ranka from posting further content about Bhatia. The court took note of their undertaking to remove the posts and proceeded on that basis. It also directed social media platforms Meta and X to take down identical posts in the future if Bhatia flags them, according to the details of the hearing. Following the proceedings, Das said on X that he and Ranka had voluntarily agreed to delete the posts.

His statement appeared to frame the removal as a decision they had agreed to undertake rather than an admission of the allegations raised in the defamation case. The social media exchange ensured that the dispute continued beyond the courtroom, with both sides maintaining their positions. Bhatia also reacted to the development on X, appearing to take a dig at the CJP leaders after the court hearing. The exchange included references such as “No comment” and “pantless”, reflecting the combative nature of the ongoing dispute between the BJP spokesperson and the CJP leaders. The remarks followed the court proceedings and added another public dimension to the legal confrontation.

The case centres on social media posts that Bhatia has alleged were defamatory or objectionable. Under the arrangement placed before the court, Das and Ranka are to remove the posts within 24 hours. Meta and X have also been asked to act against identical posts in the future when flagged by Bhatia.

The directions provide a mechanism for dealing with the disputed material while leaving the broader question of the parties’ ongoing public exchanges separate from the immediate takedown issue. The hearing comes amid a wider series of public exchanges between Bhatia and members of the CJP. Das has remained vocal on social media, while Bhatia has challenged what he considers objectionable statements through legal proceedings. Thursday’s developments therefore represent both a courtroom intervention and another chapter in an increasingly public dispute, with the parties continuing to respond to each other after the hearing.
