OpenAI is offering a limited-time one-month free trial of ChatGPT Plus to some users in India, although the promotion is not available on every account. The offer provides eligible users with access to the paid subscription without a charge for the first month, while the regular price displayed for ChatGPT Plus in India is ₹1,999 per month. The promotion has been reported as visible to selected accounts.

Eligible users can check the offer by signing in to ChatGPT and opening the subscription or upgrade page. If the promotion is available, the ChatGPT Plus plan may display a “Claim free offer” option, with the promotional price shown as ₹0 for the first month instead of the standard monthly charge. Since eligibility is account-specific, users who do not see the offer may not qualify for the promotion.

The checkout process still requires payment information for users taking up the promotional subscription. OpenAI's general promotional-subscription terms state that payment details may be required and that promotional subscriptions can automatically renew as paid plans after the free period unless they are cancelled beforehand. Users should therefore review the terms displayed during checkout before confirming the offer.

The availability of the promotion can also depend on an account's previous subscription history. Reports on the current India offer indicate that some accounts that had not previously subscribed to a paid ChatGPT plan received the ₹0 Plus option, while other accounts were presented with the regular ₹1,999 price. This means that seeing the standard price on the upgrade page indicates that the promotional offer is not currently available to that account.

Users who activate the free month and do not want to continue with ChatGPT Plus should check the renewal details and cancel before the promotional period ends. OpenAI's terms state that promotional subscriptions generally renew automatically using the payment method on file unless the user cancels before the trial or promotional period concludes.

ChatGPT Plus provides expanded access to ChatGPT features compared with the free tier, although the exact features and usage limits can change as OpenAI updates its plans. The safest way to determine whether the current India promotion is available is to check the offer displayed on the user's own ChatGPT subscription page and review the terms shown before completing the activation.
