Audi has unveiled the 2026 Q7, marking the third generation of its flagship luxury SUV, which continues to prominently feature diesel powertrains even as the global automotive industry rapidly shifts toward electrification. Built on the Volkswagen Group’s Premium Platform Combustion (PPC), the updated Q7 maintains its positioning in the premium SUV segment, competing with rivals such as the BMW X5 and Mercedes-Benz GLE.
The new Q7 is offered with both petrol and diesel V6 engine options, depending on the market. The petrol variant comes with a 2.9-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine producing 429 hp and 599 Nm of torque, enabling a claimed 0–100 kmph acceleration in 4.8 seconds. It is paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox and Audi’s Quattro all-wheel-drive system as standard across the range.
However, the highlight of the lineup remains the 3.0-litre V6 TDI diesel engine, which continues to play a central role in Audi’s global strategy. It is available in two states of tune, offering either 245 hp with 500 Nm or a higher output of 299 hp with 630 Nm. Both versions are supported by a mild-hybrid system that adds up to 24 hp and 370 Nm of temporary boost, improving both efficiency and overtaking performance.

Audi has also positioned the diesel engine as more environmentally adaptable by making it compatible with hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO), a renewable fuel that the company claims can reduce CO₂ emissions by up to 95 percent compared to conventional diesel. This reflects Audi’s attempt to extend the relevance of diesel technology in a tightening emissions regulatory landscape while transitioning toward cleaner fuel alternatives.
The company’s association with diesel performance dates back decades, including high-performance models such as the Q7 V12 TDI launched in 2009, which delivered massive torque inspired by Audi’s Le Mans racing technology. While such extreme engines are no longer part of the mainstream lineup, the current V6 diesel continues that legacy in a more refined and efficient form suited for modern usage.
Order books for the 2026 Audi Q7 are set to open in Europe this month, with deliveries expected to begin in September 2026. Pricing starts at around €87,900 (approximately Rs 96.9 lakh), going up to €90,500 (around Rs 99.76 lakh) for higher variants. While an official India launch timeline has not been confirmed, the Q7 has historically been an important model for Audi in the Indian market, suggesting a likely future introduction.
