Coimbatore’s Semmozhi Classical Language Park, built at a cost of ₹208.50 crore, opens to the public today, promising a unique blend of Tamil heritage and modern recreational facilities. Inaugurated by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on November 25, the park is spread over 45 acres at the historic Jail Grounds in Gandhipuram.
The park is designed to celebrate Tamil’s classical linguistic and cultural legacy, featuring themed gardens such as the Classical Language Forest, Aromatic Forest, Five-Fold Forest, Flower Forest, Puzzle Forest, Shadow Forest, Health Forest, and an area dedicated to the Champa tree mentioned in Sangam literature. Visitors can explore each zone with the help of QR codes detailing plant and tree species.
A highlight of the park is its expansive rose garden, which hosts over 1,000 varieties of roses, complemented by a curated herbal garden and lush woodland areas. The park also includes a 500-seat open-air theatre for cultural performances, smooth walking tracks, more than 100 stone benches, and decorative lighting to enhance the evening ambience.
