A remarkable 82% of visa applications by Indian travelers in 2025 were for electronic visas (e-Visas), up from 79% in 2024, according to a report by Atlys, a leading visa processing platform. The report highlights the growing preference for e-Visas, with the United Arab Emirates, Vietnam, Indonesia, Hong Kong, and Egypt emerging as the top destinations for Indian travelers this year.
The surge in e-Visa adoption reflects a global shift toward simplified digital entry systems, enabling faster and more convenient travel. “Indian travelers increasingly value speed and certainty, and e-Visas deliver both,” said Mohak Nahta, Founder and CEO of Atlys. “The ability to apply online and receive approvals quickly has made last-minute and short-haul trips far more feasible.” Countries adopting digital visa systems are reaping the benefits, with higher visitor numbers from India, Nahta added.
Over 50 countries across Asia, Africa, Europe, Oceania, and Latin America now offer e-Visas or electronic travel authorizations (eTAs) to Indian passport holders. Asian destinations like Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and Indonesia lead with stay durations ranging from 14 to 90 days, with Vietnam offering 30-day stays under a 90-day e-Visa validity. In Africa, Egypt, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and Morocco provide digital access for 30 to 90-day stays. European nations such as Albania, Moldova, and Russia, alongside Caribbean and Latin American countries like Cuba, Suriname, Colombia, and the Bahamas, have also embraced e-Visa systems. Australia and New Zealand further enhance access through streamlined eTAs.

Notably, Sri Lanka saw a sevenfold increase in e-Visa applications from 2024 to 2025, while Georgia recorded a 2.6x surge, signaling Indian travelers’ growing interest in diverse destinations. This trend underscores how e-Visas are transforming cross-border leisure travel by aligning with modern expectations for convenience and efficiency.
