Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is set to participate in the 33rd Mahashivratri celebrations at the Isha Yoga Centre in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, on Sunday. Sharing his excitement on X, Singh extended greetings to devotees and highlighted his plans to attend the evening ceremonies, which include special poojas, music performances, and the traditional all-night vigil associated with the festival.
According to the official schedule, Singh will arrive in Coimbatore by flight at 4:15 p.m. and proceed via a private helicopter to the Isha Yoga Centre at 4:25 p.m. He will witness rituals such as the ‘Pancha Bhuta Kriya’ at the Dhyanalinga, which honours the five elements, followed by the grand Linga Bhairavi Maha Yatra procession celebrating the divine feminine.
To manage the massive turnout, nearly 7,000 police personnel have been deployed across Coimbatore district. Authorities have implemented intensified security checks, additional surveillance measures, and streamlined access routes to ensure the safety of devotees and dignitaries alike. Emergency response teams and barricading systems have been strategically positioned around the venue.

The celebrations, organised by spiritual leader Sadhguru, attract global attention each year, with the towering Adiyogi statue at the foothills of the Velliangiri Mountains serving as the event’s focal point. Alongside the Defence Minister, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Minister L. Murugan are expected to attend.
The 2026 edition of the Mahashivratri event will be broadcast live on over 100 television networks and digital platforms in 24 Indian and international languages, reaching an estimated 140 million viewers worldwide. Participants from across India and abroad will gather to celebrate Lord Shiva through devotion, meditation, music, and cultural performances, highlighting the festival’s growing recognition as a spiritual and cultural occasion of national significance.
