A three-year-old boy drowned in a village pond in Greater Noida, triggering protests by residents who alleged long-standing civic negligence. The incident occurred when the child, identified as Devansh, went missing while attending a temple feast with his parents. Locals later found his body in the pond after an extensive search. Police have registered the case as an accidental death.
According to officials, Devansh had accompanied his parents, Anil and Anjali, to a nearby temple event. When the parents realised the child was missing, family members and villagers began searching the surrounding area. Some residents suspected he might have wandered toward the pond. Police were alerted and divers were called to the spot. Hours later, the child’s body was recovered from the water.
Preliminary findings suggest the boy may have slipped into the pond while playing nearby. Station House Officer Munendra Singh of Dankaur Police Station said the incident is being treated as an accident. However, he added that authorities are also examining whether administrative negligence contributed to the tragedy. The police said further inquiries are underway.

Villagers alleged that the pond has remained poorly maintained for decades. They claimed it has neither been cleaned nor secured with proper boundary walls or barricades. Residents said repeated complaints to local authorities had gone unaddressed. Following the incident, locals staged protests demanding accountability and immediate safety measures around the water body.
The tragedy comes weeks after similar fatal accidents in the Noida region raised concerns about public safety. In recent cases, a software engineer and a private bank employee died after falling into poorly secured pits linked to civic works. The latest incident has renewed calls from residents for stricter safety enforcement and better maintenance of hazardous sites.
