The upcoming visit of United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio to India has underscored the strategic importance of the Quad partnership, according to the US Embassy in India, as member countries prepare for high-level diplomatic engagements focused on regional security and economic cooperation in the Indo-Pacific.
The Quad brings together India, the United States, Australia, and Japan in a cooperative framework aimed at promoting a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific region. In a statement shared on social media, the US Embassy highlighted that Rubio’s visit reflects the growing significance of the grouping, particularly in areas such as maritime security and diversification of critical mineral supply chains.
India is set to host the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in New Delhi on May 26, where External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will welcome Rubio along with Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong and Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi. Officials said the meeting will focus on strengthening cooperation across strategic and economic domains, reinforcing shared commitments to regional stability and resilience.

Ahead of his visit, Rubio described India as a “great ally” and “great partner,” emphasising Washington’s intent to deepen energy and strategic ties. He noted that discussions on expanding energy cooperation were already underway, with the United States expressing readiness to increase exports to meet India’s growing demand amid global supply disruptions linked to geopolitical tensions.
Rubio also highlighted the Quad as a key pillar of US foreign policy engagement in the region, recalling that his first official meeting after assuming office was with Quad partners. He said continued coordination among member countries remains essential to addressing global challenges, including supply chain security and energy stability. According to him, the upcoming discussions in India will provide an important platform to advance these shared objectives.
Officials from both sides have described the visit as part of a broader effort to strengthen bilateral ties and multilateral coordination within the Indo-Pacific framework. The talks are expected to build on previous engagements and further align strategic priorities among Quad members amid an evolving global geopolitical landscape.
