Nearly a month after violence erupted during a demolition drive near the Faiz-e-Ilahi Mosque in the Turkman Gate area, the Delhi Police have questioned a female social media influencer as part of their ongoing investigation into what they describe as a possible “conspiracy” to disturb public order. The stone-pelting incident last month left five police personnel injured and escalated tensions in Central Delhi.
According to police sources, the influencer, identified as Aiman Rizwi, allegedly posted a video in the early hours of January 7 concerning the demolition of encroachments around the mosque. Investigators believe the video may have contributed to a gathering of residents near the site, amid fears that the mosque itself would be demolished. Authorities are examining whether the content of the video played a role in mobilising the crowd that later turned violent.
The demolition drive was carried out by civic authorities as part of an anti-encroachment operation in the Turkman Gate locality. Police said that during the exercise, a group of people assembled and began pelting stones, resulting in injuries to five officers deployed at the scene. The incident prompted heightened security in the area and the registration of multiple cases.

Meanwhile, legal proceedings in connection with the violence are underway. A court has reserved its order until February 16 on the bail plea of 12 individuals arrested in the case. The accused have been charged with offences related to rioting, unlawful assembly, and obstructing public servants from performing their duties.
Delhi Police officials have maintained that the investigation is focused on identifying those responsible for inciting or participating in the unrest. They are reviewing digital evidence, including videos circulated online, to determine whether there was coordinated messaging aimed at provoking public disorder.
The case has drawn attention to the growing role of social media in shaping on-ground events, particularly during sensitive civic operations. Authorities have reiterated that strict action will be taken against anyone found to have deliberately spread misinformation or incited violence, while also emphasising the need to maintain communal harmony in densely populated areas such as Turkman Gate.
