Petrol and diesel prices remained a key focus for consumers on Monday, July 27, as global crude oil markets witnessed a sharp decline following reports of possible diplomatic efforts to ease tensions between the United States and Iran. The fall in international oil prices could influence fuel price movements in the coming days, although domestic petrol and diesel rates in India continue to be determined by oil marketing companies based on global crude prices, currency exchange rates and other factors. Brent crude prices dropped below the $90-per-barrel mark on Monday after reports emerged that Pakistan was exploring ways to facilitate the revival of diplomatic talks between Washington and Tehran.
At the latest update, Brent crude was trading at around $87.60 per barrel, down more than 4 per cent, reflecting market optimism over the possibility of reduced geopolitical tensions in the Gulf region. The decline followed a sharp sell-off on Friday, when Brent crude settled nearly 4 per cent lower at $96.78 per barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude declined around 3 per cent to $89.31 per barrel. The drop came after reports suggested that Pakistan was attempting to support renewed negotiations between the US and Iran, with China also backing the diplomatic initiative.
According to reports, China has shown support for efforts to restart dialogue between the two countries as rising tensions in the Gulf have begun affecting its strategic and economic interests. Any improvement in relations between major global powers involved in the region could reduce concerns over supply disruptions and put further pressure on international crude prices. In India, petrol and diesel prices are reviewed daily by state-run oil marketing companies, including Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum Corporation and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation. The rates vary from city to city due to differences in local taxes, transportation costs and state-level levies.

Major cities such as Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata and Delhi typically record different fuel prices due to these factors. Fuel consumers are closely watching global crude oil movements as India imports a significant portion of its crude oil requirements. A sustained decline in international crude prices can provide relief by lowering input costs for fuel companies, while a rise in global oil prices can increase pressure on domestic fuel rates. In major cities, petrol and diesel prices on July 27 continued to reflect the prevailing domestic pricing structure.
Consumers in Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata and other metropolitan areas are advised to check the latest rates through official oil company platforms or fuel station updates, as prices may vary depending on local taxation and daily revisions. Market analysts said crude oil prices will continue to depend on developments in global diplomacy, especially any progress in US-Iran negotiations and broader geopolitical conditions in oil-producing regions. While the recent decline has eased some concerns over supply risks, traders remain cautious as any escalation in tensions could quickly reverse the downward trend in crude prices.
