Indian stock markets, including the National Stock Exchange of India and the Bombay Stock Exchange, remain closed on Thursday, March 26, 2026, in observance of Ram Navami. The holiday marks the second trading break for the month after the earlier closure on March 3 for Holi, excluding regular weekend offs.
According to the official holiday calendar released by the exchanges, trading across equity, derivatives, and other segments is suspended for the day. The closure comes as part of a broader cluster of non-trading days scheduled within a short span, leading to reduced market activity over the coming sessions.
The upcoming trading calendar shows additional holidays on March 31 for Mahavir Jayanti and April 3 for Good Friday. These consecutive interruptions are expected to impact trading volumes and liquidity in the near term, as market participants adjust their strategies around fewer active sessions.

For the full year 2026, Indian stock markets are set to observe 16 trading holidays, excluding weekends. These include major national and religious observances such as Dr B. R. Ambedkar Jayanti, Ganesh Chaturthi, Dussehra, Diwali, and Christmas, among others.
Despite the scheduled closures, markets will open for a special “Muhurat Trading” session during Diwali, which is traditionally considered an शुभ (auspicious) time for investments. The exact timing of this session will be announced separately by the exchanges closer to the festival date.
Under normal circumstances, trading on the NSE and BSE takes place on weekdays, with a pre-open session starting at 9:00 a.m., followed by regular trading from 9:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and a closing session thereafter. However, exchanges retain the authority to modify trading hours or declare additional holidays if required under special circumstances.
