Prabhas’s much-anticipated film The Raja Saab hit theaters on January 9, receiving mixed reactions from audiences. Despite the divided reviews, the horror-comedy managed to achieve a strong opening at the Indian box office, crossing ₹60 crore on its first day, including paid previews. However, compared to Prabhas’s recent big-budget releases, this marks his weakest post-pandemic opening.
Industry tracker Sacnilk reported that the film earned ₹54.15 crore on its official opening day, with an additional ₹9.15 crore collected from Thursday’s paid previews. This brought the total Day 1 collection in India to ₹63.3 crore, a decent figure but notably lower than openings for Salaar (₹90 crore), Kalki 2898 AD (₹95 crore), and Adipurush (₹86 crore).
Occupancy rates across theaters reflected audience interest in various languages, with Telugu (2D) leading at 57.16%, followed by Telugu 4DX at 32.93%. Other versions saw lower occupancy: Hindi 2D at 15.63%, Tamil 2D at 22.61%, Kannada 2D at 15.53%, and Malayalam 2D at 11.62%. The mixed occupancy suggests strong regional performance but weaker nationwide traction.

Despite being Prabhas’s lowest opener post-pandemic, The Raja Saab still outperformed several recent releases. Its Day 1 collections surpassed films like Jawan (₹64 crore), Animal (₹63 crore), Leo (₹64.8 crore), and Dhurandhar (₹28 crore), highlighting the actor’s continued box office pull.
The film revolves around Prabhas’s character, who seeks to reclaim his ancestral property, an abandoned cinema named Raja Deluxe. What starts as a simple task soon unfolds into a paranormal adventure intertwined with family secrets, blending horror and humor. The cast includes Sanjay Dutt as the antagonist, alongside Malavika Mohanan, Nidhhi Agerwal, Riddhi Kumar, Boman Irani, and Zarina Wahab.
With cinematography by Karthik Palani and music composed by Thaman S., The Raja Saab has a solid production lineup. While the Day 1 numbers indicate a moderate start, the film’s long-term box office fate will depend on audience word-of-mouth and regional performance in the coming days.
