The box office run of Dacoit continues to remain underwhelming, with the Adivi Sesh and Mrunal Thakur starrer collecting over ₹27 crore by the end of its sixth day in theatres. The film’s performance has drawn comparisons with the actor’s earlier success Major, which had set a significantly higher benchmark at the box office.
Released amid moderate expectations, Dacoit managed a decent opening, driven largely by the popularity of its lead actors and pre-release buzz. However, the film has struggled to maintain momentum in the days following its release. While crossing the ₹27 crore mark within six days is notable, the pace of collections has been slower compared to Major, which had seen stronger audience turnout and sustained growth during its initial run.
Trade analysts suggest that mixed word-of-mouth has played a key role in shaping the film’s box office trajectory. Although performances by Adivi Sesh and Mrunal Thakur have been appreciated in certain quarters, the overall narrative and execution appear to have received a more divided response from audiences. This has impacted repeat viewership, which is often crucial for a film’s long-term success.

Another factor affecting Dacoit’s performance is competition from other releases currently in theatres. With multiple films vying for audience attention, maintaining strong occupancy levels has become challenging. The film’s collections in key urban centres, which typically drive box office numbers, have shown signs of slowing down after the initial weekend.
In contrast, Major, based on the life of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, had benefited from strong emotional connect, positive critical reception, and robust word-of-mouth, helping it sustain momentum over several weeks. The comparison underscores the gap in audience reception between the two films, despite both being led by the same actor.
Looking ahead, the second weekend is expected to be crucial for Dacoit. A significant uptick in collections could help stabilise its overall performance, while a continued slowdown may limit its box office potential. Much will depend on whether the film can attract fresh audiences and improve occupancy rates in the coming days, as it attempts to find firmer footing at the box office.
