Two men were arrested in Jadavpur, south Kolkata, for allegedly molesting a television actress and threatening her with an acid attack, police reported on Thursday. The incident took place around 3:30 am on Wednesday near Krishna Glass Factory, where the actress, returning from a shoot, had stopped for tea with four friends.
According to the actress’s complaint, two intoxicated youths arrived in a car and began hurling obscene abuses at her without provocation. When her group protested, the duo allegedly assaulted and attempted to molest her, escalating tensions. “We tried to reason calmly, but they wouldn’t listen. They attempted to molest me and threatened an acid attack,” the actress told reporters. A police patrol car’s arrival diffused the situation.
An FIR was filed, leading to the arrest of the two men, a senior officer from Jadavpur police station confirmed. The accused, however, lodged a counter-complaint, claiming they were assaulted by the actress’s friends. Police are investigating both complaints to ascertain the facts of the altercation, which has sparked public outrage in the city.
