Acclaimed filmmaker Sooraj Barjatya announced his groundbreaking television show Manpasand Ki Shaadi, set to premiere on Colors TV and JioHotstar on August 11. Produced under Rajshri Productions, the series marks a departure from Barjatya’s signature arranged-marriage narratives, presenting a modern take on love and family dynamics. In an interview with PTI, Barjatya described the show as his “most modern subject,” inspired by the evolving perspectives of today’s youth on marriage.
The show centers on Aarohi Shinde (Esha Suryawanshi), a young woman who defies her family’s traditional approach to marriage, advocating for her right to choose her life partner. Alongside male lead Akshun Mahajan, the series delves into the tensions between tradition and modernity, exploring complex family dynamics and societal expectations. The cast includes Milind Gawli, Suchitra Bandekar, Avinash Wadhwan, and Gungun Uprari, set against a vibrant Maharashtrian backdrop—a first for Barjatya.
Known for iconic films like Hum Aapke Hain Koun, Hum Saath Saath Hain, and Uunchai, Barjatya noted that Manpasand Ki Shaadi reflects his observations of shifting marital trends. “Marriage is a relevant and debatable subject today,” he said, highlighting how younger generations prioritize personality and compatibility over superficial criteria, yet must respect the institution of marriage. Drawing from personal experiences, including his children’s later marriages, Barjatya aims to spark a societal dialogue about modern relationships.
