Instagram influencer Apoorva Mukhija, known as 'The Rebel Kid' among her over 3 million followers, has issued a public apology for her remarks during a controversial episode of “India’s Got Latent”. Mukhija's comments sparked backlash after the episode, leading to significant online criticism and the deletion of her social media posts last week due to cyberbullying.
During the show, which has since been deleted by its creator, comedian Samay Raina, Mukhija was part of a panel where YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia made contentious remarks about parents and sex. Mukhija herself faced criticism for a clip where she responded sharply to a demeaning comment about her body, later admitting her comments were made in anger and retaliation.
In a heartfelt video posted on her Instagram, Mukhija expressed deep regret: "I have hurt a lot of people and that is honestly the last thing I want to do. I genuinely create content to entertain people and to make them laugh. I never wanted to hurt anybody and I am very very sorry."
Reflecting on the incident, Mukhija admitted to making jokes that were in bad taste and not reflective of her intentions. She acknowledged the impact of her words, particularly in the context of the show's tone, and shared her experience of receiving threatening messages and online harassment, prompting her to involve law enforcement.
Despite the challenges, Mukhija has committed to donating her earnings from the episode to an NGO supporting victims of acid attacks, rape, and domestic violence. She emphasised her determination to move forward positively, despite the ordeal, and thanked her parents for their unwavering support amidst the backlash.
