Rapper Badshah has issued a public apology following criticism over the lyrics of his Haryanvi track Tateeree, which sparked backlash on social media and among community groups. The artist said he never intended to hurt anyone’s sentiments and emphasised that he takes pride in his Haryanvi roots. The controversy arose after some listeners objected to certain lyrics and visuals in the song, claiming they portrayed women and children in an inappropriate manner.
In a video shared on his Instagram account, Badshah addressed the criticism and acknowledged that some people, particularly from Haryana, felt offended by the song. He said that he deeply respects his cultural background and did not intend to portray anyone from the state negatively through the track. The rapper stressed that his identity, language, lifestyle, and cultural values are closely tied to Haryana.
“I am a very proud Haryanvi,” he said in the video message while explaining his perspective on the issue. According to the artist, the lyrics were not aimed at insulting any woman or child from the region. He said the controversial part of the song may have been misunderstood due to the combination of lyrics and their visual representation.

Badshah also explained that the track belongs to the hip-hop genre, where lyrics are often used in a competitive style to challenge or criticise opponents. He noted that such lyrical expression is common in the genre and was never meant to target any specific community or group of people.
The controversy has also drawn the attention of the Haryana State Women's Commission, which recently issued a notice asking the rapper to appear before the panel on March 13 to record his statement. The notice followed complaints filed by activists, including representatives from local organisations who alleged that the song contained objectionable language and imagery.
Concluding his message, Badshah apologised to those who felt hurt by the song and asked for forgiveness. He expressed hope that people from Haryana would consider him “their own son” and understand that his intention was never to disrespect women, children, or the culture of the state.
