Television actor Akanksha Chamola has publicly revealed that her marriage with actor Gaurav Khanna is ending in divorce, citing their differing views on parenthood as the primary reason behind the separation. Speaking during the premiere episodes of the reality show Lock Upp Season 2, Akanksha said she never developed a maternal instinct and had been honest about her feelings throughout their marriage. She explained that while she was initially open to discovering whether she wanted children, she gradually realized motherhood was not something she wanted for herself.
During a conversation with fellow contestants, Akanksha said that she had informed Gaurav about her feelings as soon as she became certain of her decision. According to her, she never wanted to mislead him or create false expectations regarding starting a family. She stated that although Gaurav had accepted her views earlier in their marriage, his desire to become a father grew stronger over time, ultimately creating a significant difference between them that could not be reconciled.
Akanksha said Gaurav now wants children "badly," while she feels she cannot fulfill that wish because she simply does not possess the instinct to become a mother. She added that once she realized motherhood was not meant for her, she clearly communicated her decision to him. According to Akanksha, she even told Gaurav that if having children was essential to his future, he was free to leave the marriage, believing that such a decision would be fair to both of them rather than forcing either person to compromise on a life-changing choice.

Reflecting on marriage and family expectations, Akanksha remarked that many people marry with the hope of having children and continuing their family lineage. She emphasized that she does not believe Gaurav is wrong for wanting a family and acknowledged that his aspirations are completely valid. However, she said she did not want him to remain in a relationship where such an important life goal could never be fulfilled, adding that this realization ultimately influenced their decision to separate.
The issue had previously come into the public eye during Bigg Boss 19, where Gaurav spoke about his wife's decision not to have children. During the show's finale week, he faced criticism from some viewers and media members who accused him of using his personal life to gain sympathy. Responding to those allegations, Gaurav maintained that he respected and supported Akanksha's decision, while also admitting that he personally hoped to become a father someday.
Gaurav Khanna and Akanksha Chamola married on November 24, 2016, in Kanpur after several years together. Akanksha is known for her work in television shows including Santoshi Maa, Yeh Hai Aashiqui and Crime Patrol. Their candid discussion has reignited conversations on personal choice, compatibility in marriage and the importance of respecting differing life goals, particularly when it comes to the decision of whether or not to have children.
