The Tamil film industry and fans are reeling from the untimely death of actor-comedian Robo Shankar, aged 46, who passed away on September 18, 2025, at GEM Hospital in Perungudi, Chennai. The news sent shockwaves through social media, with prominent actors including Kamal Haasan, Dhanush, Vijay, Karthi, and Simran expressing their condolences.
Robo Shankar, born Shankar, was admitted to the hospital on September 16, 2025, in critical condition following a collapse on a film set. According to the hospital's official statement, he suffered from a massive gastrointestinal bleed and multi-organ dysfunction caused by a complex abdominal condition. Despite the efforts of a multidisciplinary medical team, his condition deteriorated rapidly, and he was pronounced dead at 9:05 pm on September 18.
Speculation on social media initially pointed to complications from jaundice, which Shankar had recovered from years earlier, or a possible cardiac arrest. However, the hospital clarified that his death resulted from the abdominal condition. Shankar had been maintaining a strict diet post-jaundice recovery, but no direct link to his prior illness was confirmed.
