Actor Prakash Raj has strongly criticised Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi Arlekar over the ongoing delay in government formation following the Assembly election results, calling the Governor’s conduct “disgusting,” “unacceptable,” and “unconstitutional” amid uncertainty surrounding Vijay-led Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).
The comments came after Vijay met the Governor again in an attempt to demonstrate support numbers required to form the government in the hung Assembly. Reacting to a social media post showing Vijay heading for discussions with the Governor, Prakash Raj said that despite ideological differences with the actor-politician, the people’s mandate must be respected and Vijay should be allowed to prove his majority on the floor of the House.
In separate posts on X, formerly Twitter, Prakash Raj argued that the Governor should not obstruct the democratic process and said elected representatives should be given the opportunity to establish their majority through a floor test. His remarks added to the growing political debate over the Governor’s role following the fractured electoral verdict in Tamil Nadu.

The controversy comes after TVK emerged as the single largest force in the Assembly elections by winning 108 seats in the 234-member House, stunning established Dravidian parties including the DMK and AIADMK. However, the party fell short of the majority mark of 118. With Congress extending support, the alliance strength has reportedly risen to 112, still short of the required number.
According to reports, Governor Arlekar asked Vijay to submit clear evidence of majority support and provide a list of supporting MLAs during their second meeting. The Raj Bhavan reportedly maintained that TVK currently does not possess the numbers required to stake claim independently and sought clarity regarding potential coalition backing.
The uncertainty has delayed Vijay’s possible swearing-in and intensified political reactions across the state. While BJP leaders have described the result as a “fractured verdict,” TVK leaders are reportedly exploring constitutional and legal options as they continue efforts to secure additional support needed to form the next government in Tamil Nadu.
