The Tamil box office heats up today with the release of two coming-of-age dramas—NEEK (Nilavuku En Mel Ennadi Kobam) and Dragon. Both films, released on February 21, have been receiving positive reactions from audiences.
Directed, written, and produced by Dhanush, NEEK explores the lives of Gen-Z with a fresh cast, including Pavish, Anikha Surendran, Priya Prakash Varrier, Mathew Thomas, Venkatesh Menon, Rabiya Khatoon, and Ramya Ranganathan. The film, featuring a youthful vibe and a chartbuster soundtrack, has generated significant pre-release buzz, making its box office performance highly anticipated.
Meanwhile, Dragon, starring Love Today’s Pradeep Ranganathan, is a coming-of-age comedy-drama that follows a college student navigating a breakup and entering the world of financial fraud. Directed by Ashwath Marimuthu and produced by AGS Entertainment, the film features Anupama Parameswaran, Kayadu Lohar, and a talented supporting cast, including George Maryan, Indumathy Manikandan, K.S. Ravikumar, and Gautham Vasudev Menon.
Early social media reactions for both films have been encouraging. One user on X (formerly Twitter) praised NEEK as “a clean teen rom-com with a fun, relatable story,” while another called it “a usual love story presented in an enjoyable way.”
For Dragon, one viewer noted, “The title Dragon perfectly suits Pradeep's character—it was organic and fun.” Another wrote, “Good first half. Nice cameos, excellent interval twist. #ReturnOfTheDragon.”
With both films receiving positive word-of-mouth, the Tamil box office has an exciting weekend ahead.
