Jason Sanjay, son of Tamil actor and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay, has praised the action film KGF as one of his favourite commercial entertainers while promoting his upcoming directorial debut Sigma. The filmmaker-in-making highlighted the Prashanth Neel-directed film’s action, world-building, and commitment to its genre, while notably not choosing any of his father Vijay’s films as his top pick. During a promotional interaction for Sigma, Jason Sanjay spoke about the commercial films that have impressed him and named Yash-starrer KGF as a standout example of action cinema.
He explained that the film’s fictional world, historical setting, and larger-than-life action sequences were among the reasons he became a fan. “Actually, I really liked KGF because of its action. It’s a fictional world set in a historic setting that we were not part of. And it’s glorified action,” Jason said. He added that the film successfully balanced a raw presentation with an entertaining cinematic experience, praising the makers for staying true to the genre. Jason further said that he admired the overall tone of KGF and appreciated how the film convinced audiences despite being set in an imaginary world. According to him, the team’s loyalty to the action genre was one of the biggest strengths of the franchise.
The KGF franchise, directed by Prashanth Neel and starring Yash in the lead role, became one of the biggest successes in Kannada cinema and Indian film history. The first instalment, KGF: Chapter 1, released in 2018, introduced audiences to the fictional world of Rocky, while KGF: Chapter 2, released in 2022, expanded the story on a larger scale. Produced by Hombale Films, the two-part franchise received widespread attention for its intense action sequences, dramatic storytelling, and grand visual presentation. The films achieved pan-India popularity and helped establish Kannada cinema as a major force in the Indian film industry. Together, the movies earned more than ₹1,400 crore worldwide.

Jason Sanjay is currently preparing for his entry into Tamil cinema as a director with Sigma. The film marks his first major project behind the camera, and he has been actively promoting the upcoming release through interviews and public appearances. The project has attracted attention due to Jason’s background as the son of Vijay, one of Tamil cinema’s biggest stars. However, during his promotional conversations, Jason has focused on discussing his own creative influences and filmmaking approach rather than relying only on his father’s legacy.
Sigma was initially scheduled to release on July 31 but was postponed, with Vijay’s upcoming film Jana Nayagan scheduled to hit theatres on July 23. The release plans for Jason Sanjay’s directorial debut are expected to be announced by the makers soon. Jason’s appreciation for KGF has also highlighted the growing influence of pan-Indian films on younger filmmakers. His comments reflect how large-scale action entertainers from different regional industries continue to shape the creative choices of emerging directors across Indian cinema.
