Tamil Cinema Superstar Dhanush revealed at Dubai Watch Week 2025 that the most cherished timepiece in his enviable luxury watch collection is not a Rolex, Omega, or Audemars Piguet—but a plastic digital watch costing less than $1 (approximately ₹90) that his mother gifted him during his school days. Speaking candidly at the prestigious horology event, the actor-filmmaker shared how the inexpensive childhood watch sparked his lifelong passion for watches more than any high-end brand ever could.
Recalling the memory with visible emotion, Dhanush described the no-brand watch as a simple plastic digital piece that displayed only the time and featured a small backlight powered by a tiny replaceable battery. “It came in bright colors—violet, yellow, and green—very shiny and flashy,” he said, adding that he and his sisters excitedly picked their favourites. Coming from a humble background, replacing the battery was rarely an option, so once it died the watch stopped forever—yet he continued wearing it proudly to school even when it no longer told time.
The Raayan actor emphasised how deeply attached he was to the gift, stating, “Even when the battery was down, I would still wear the watch… I really was in love with that watch.” More than three decades later, Dhanush confirmed he still keeps the treasured childhood memento safely preserved in a case at his home in Chennai, despite now owning some of the world’s most coveted luxury timepieces.
