Tamil superstar Suriya, while promoting his upcoming film ‘Retro’ in Thiruvananthapuram, took a moment to caution fans against smoking. Addressing a packed crowd, he clarified that though his character smokes in the film, he personally does not endorse the habit.
"Just a word of caution—I am only smoking for the film. Please don’t pick up smoking in real life," Suriya said. "Once you start, it’s difficult to quit. You’d think one puff is enough, but it doesn’t stop there. I definitely don’t support it, so don’t do that."
The event also featured his ‘Retro’ co-stars Joju George and Jayaram. Expressing heartfelt gratitude to his Kerala fanbase, Suriya said, "I bow down to you for standing and watching this event for hours. I don’t have words to thank you for the love you’ve shown me. Kerala is truly God’s own country, where every form of art is respected."

In ‘Retro’, Suriya plays Paarivel "Paari" Kannan, a man haunted by a violent past. Despite promising his lover Rukmini (played by Pooja Hegde) to turn over a new leaf, he’s forced to confront his demons when they resurface.
Describing the film as a unique experience, Suriya said, “Karthik Subbaraj has a signature style, and I’ve long wanted to work with him. ‘Retro’ is unlike anything I’ve done before.” He also praised the film's trailer, crafted by ‘Premam’ director Alphonse Puthren, and applauded Joju and Jayaram’s performances.
Produced by Suriya and Jyotika’s 2D Entertainment and Karthik Subbaraj’s Stone Bench Films, ‘Retro’ features a stellar ensemble including Nasser, Prakash Raj, Sujith Shankar, and others. The film hits theatres on May 1.
