Actor-singer Mamta Mohandas is embracing reflection and reinvention in her latest appearance on the podcast Second Sunrises, where she speaks candidly about relationships, self-awareness and emotional growth. In conversation with actor Suhasini Maniratnam, Mamta offers measured, deeply personal insights that move beyond the contours of a conventional celebrity interview.
Produced by jewellery brand Jos Alukkas, the podcast opens up a space for intimate conversations around resilience and rediscovery. Mamta reflects on her life experiences — including a brief first marriage that lasted six months — without dwelling on hardship. Instead, she approaches the subject with striking positivity and self-awareness. “There was a part of me that wanted to move fast. One of the reasons for the haste was to fulfil all the expectations I had of myself,” she shares.
Central to the conversation is her belief that self-discovery must precede any meaningful relationship. “Self-discovery was more important than meeting new people. It was crucial to understand 'Who am I?' and what my expectations are in relationships. You need to be ‘relationship smart’. You cannot think that relationships will work only with love; you need companionship, friendship, and safety,” she says, underlining the importance of emotional clarity.

Mamta also speaks openly about the concept of rebound relationships, admitting that she once entered one soon after her divorce. With hindsight, she describes such decisions as emotionally unwise, urging individuals to take accountability rather than assign blame. “Point fingers at yourself, and question what could you have done differently," she advises, encouraging introspection over resentment.
Dismissing the idea of perfect partnerships, Mamta suggests that compatibility is less about flawless alignment and more about willingness to evolve together. She likens relationships to puzzle pieces — not all fit, and that is perfectly acceptable. The beauty, she notes, lies in discovering shared spaces and working toward emotional openness by “removing knots” within oneself and asking difficult questions.
True to its title, Second Sunrises frames stories of renewal and second chances. The series also features personalities such as Pooja Bedi, Sudha Menon, Ramya Subramanian, Jwala Gutta, Pavitra Lokesh and Vijaykrishna Naresh, each sharing personal reflections on change and resilience. With Mamta’s episode setting the tone, the podcast positions itself as a platform for honest conversations about growth, healing and the courage to begin again.
