The Pathanamthitta Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission issued a notice to actor Dulquer Salmaan on November 4, 2025, requiring his appearance on December 3. The order follows a complaint regarding Rose Brand Biryani Rice, for which he serves as brand ambassador. The case arises from a wedding event where guests suffered food poisoning after consuming biryani prepared with the rice.
Caterer P.N. Jayarajan filed the petition, stating he purchased a 50 kg bag of the rice from Malabar Biryani and Spices in Pathanamthitta. The packaging allegedly lacked both packing and expiry dates, violating food safety regulations. Over 100 guests fell ill with symptoms including vomiting and abdominal pain. Jayarajan claims the incident severely damaged his catering business, resulting in multiple booking cancellations.
The commission named three respondents: the Managing Director of Rose Brand Biryani Rice (Thalassery A.K. Traders), the store manager, and Dulquer Salmaan as the third accused. The petitioner seeks Rs 5 lakh in compensation for business losses, Rs 10,250 for the cost of the rice, and additional court expenses. He stated that Salmaan’s advertisements influenced his purchase decision.

This development coincides with separate scrutiny of the actor. Customs authorities recently seized two luxury vehicles from his residence in Kochi under an investigation into alleged smuggling from Bhutan. The rice case, however, focuses on consumer protection and celebrity endorsement liability under applicable laws.
