Hombale Films announced that actor Rukmini Vasanth will star alongside Rishab Shetty in Kantara: Chapter 1, the much-awaited prequel to the 2022 National Award-winning blockbuster Kantara. Vasanth, who debuted in the 2019 Kannada film Birbal Trilogy Case 1: Finding Vajramuni and has since impressed in projects like Baanadariyalli, Bagheera, and Ace opposite Vijay Sethupathi, will portray the pivotal role of Kanakavathi in this pan-India cinematic venture.

The announcement, shared via Hombale Films’ official Instagram, featured a striking poster of Vasanth as Kanakavathi, heightening anticipation for the film’s worldwide theatrical release on October 2, 2025. Written and directed by Shetty, who also stars in the lead, Kantara: Chapter 1 delves into the origins of the cultural and mythical narrative that made its predecessor a global phenomenon. Set in the woodlands of Kaadubettu, Karnataka, the original Kantara captivated audiences with its rich storytelling, grossing over Rs 400 crore on a modest Rs 16 crore budget.

The 2022 film earned the National Award for Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment, while Shetty secured the Best Actor award at the 70th National Film Awards. With Vasanth’s addition, Kantara: Chapter 1 promises to elevate the franchise’s legacy, blending her rising star power with Shetty’s visionary storytelling for a gripping exploration of Karnataka’s cultural heritage.
