The trailer for Hollywood romantic comedy starring Dakota Johnson, Pedro Pascal and Chris Evans ‘Materialists’ has been released and asks a simple question – “Why Do People Marry?”.
The film, written and directed by Celine Song, is set for a June 13 release. Song, known for her work on Past Lives, earned an Academy Award nomination for the acclaimed film.
A24's latest film, ‘Materialists’, is bringing together an all-star cast, including Dakota Johnson, Chris Evans, and Pedro Pascal. At the heart of the story is Lucy (Johnson), a successful matchmaker who seems to have a knack for helping others find love. The trailer opens with a montage of clients describing their ideal partners, as Lucy confidently assures one woman that she will marry the love of her life.
However, things take an unexpected turn when Lucy encounters Pascal’s character—a wealthy, charismatic man who instantly catches her attention. To complicate matters further, she also runs into her ex-boyfriend, John (Evans), who happens to be waiting tables at the same wedding she’s attending.
Caught between a so-called ‘unicorn’ (as she dubs Pascal’s character) and a familiar love from her past, Lucy begins to lose control of both her personal and professional life. Despite being an expert at guiding others in romance, she struggles to understand her own desires. When John asks, “Why do people marry?” she responds, “Because they are lonely and hopeful.”
As for the cast, Materialists marks Johnson’s return after the lackluster Madame Web, while Pascal was last seen in Ridley Scott’s Gladiator 2. Evans, meanwhile, recently starred in Red One. While his MCU comeback remains on hold, Pascal is gearing up to play Reed Richards in Marvel’s upcoming Fantastic Four.
