Hollywood icon Tom Cruise is set to receive the BFI Fellowship, the highest honour bestowed by the British Film Institute, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to film and television.
The 62-year-old actor, known for blockbusters like the ‘Mission: Impossible’ series and ‘Top Gun’, will be presented with the accolade on May 12 at the BFI Chair’s Dinner in London. The event will be hosted by BFI Chair Jay Hunt.
Ahead of the ceremony, Cruise will take part in an ‘In Conversation’ session at BFI Southbank on May 11, where he will discuss his cinematic legacy and his work on the ‘Mission: Impossible’ franchise.
Expressing his gratitude for the honour, Cruise said, “I’ve been making films in the U.K. for over 40 years and have no plans to stop. The U.K. is home to incredibly talented professionals—actors, directors, writers, and crews—as well as some of the most stunning locations in the world. I’m grateful for all the BFI has done to support U.K. filmmaking and this incredible art form we share.”
Hunt praised Cruise’s contributions to the British film industry, stating, “We are thrilled to be honouring Tom Cruise with a BFI Fellowship. Tom has brought so much to the U.K. as a producer, choosing to make many of his films here, where he is welcomed by our crews who help bring his cinematic visions to life.”
“He is, of course, also simply one of the world’s great actors and a true movie star, delighting audiences as an action hero and romantic lead while also surprising us with brave, left-field roles where his versatility and talent shine through,” she added.
Cruise will next be seen in ‘Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning’, the eighth installment of the action-packed franchise, set for worldwide release on May 23.
