Demi Moore has revealed that Tom Cruise appeared visibly embarrassed when he saw her nearly eight months pregnant during preproduction for A Few Good Men (1992). Speaking at the New Yorker Festival on October 25, 2025, Moore shared that while she felt comfortable with her condition, Cruise’s reaction reflected Hollywood’s discomfort with pregnant leading actresses at the time.
“I think Tom was quite embarrassed,” Moore told interviewer Jia Tolentino. “I actually felt okay about it. I was moving around, though, right? But I could tell he felt that it was a bit awkward.” Moore, expecting her daughter Scout Willis with then-husband Bruce Willis, was one of the few A-list women challenging the norm that pregnancy meant pausing a high-profile career.
Determined to prove otherwise, Moore pushed herself to extremes. Preparing for her role as a Navy lawyer, she stayed intensely active—hiking for two-and-a-half hours the day her water broke, completing a 24-mile bike ride, and even dancing at a reggae club. “Hence why she came two-and-a-half weeks early,” Moore laughed. She admitted to becoming an “overachiever,” reflecting, “I look back now and go, ‘What the f*** was I thinking?’”

Post-delivery, Moore returned to set while breastfeeding and blocking scenes, further defying expectations. “I challenged that to say, ‘Why not? Why can’t you have both?’” she said, emphasizing her mission to show women could thrive in motherhood and ambition. Today, she’s proud that younger actresses face less pressure to “prove themselves” in the same way.
Moore’s story highlights a turning point in Hollywood’s treatment of working mothers. From A Few Good Men to her recent critically acclaimed role in The Substance, she continues to redefine what’s possible—on screen and in life.
