John Lithgow revealed that he seriously considered stepping away from the upcoming Harry Potter reboot after facing backlash linked to J.K. Rowling’s views on transgender issues. The actor said he was “stung” by the strong online reactions that followed his casting announcement as Albus Dumbledore, one of the franchise’s most iconic roles.
