Oscar-winning actress Scarlett Johansson has admitted that her habit of declining selfies with fans often rubs people the wrong way. The 40-year-old “Black Widow” star, known for her fiercely private nature, told InStyle magazine that she prefers to keep her off-duty time to herself.
“It really offends a lot of people,” she said, explaining that she turns down photo requests when she’s not working. “It doesn’t mean I’m not appreciative of fans, but I say, ‘I’m not working.’ I want to be in my own thoughts, not self-conscious about being seen.”
Johansson, who values her personal space, expressed empathy for pop star Chappell Roan’s struggles with fame. “She’s been outspoken about how hard it is to adjust,” Johansson noted. “Fan crush-dom can be really tough.
I’ve dated actors with heart-throb status when I was younger—that’s scary to me.” She added that while she appreciates her fans, her own level of fame feels more manageable.
The actress, who turned 40 in November, recently shared on LIVE with Kelly and Mark that reaching this milestone has been “liberating.” She explained, “You don’t care what anybody thinks anymore, which is so freeing.”
Johansson’s candid reflections highlight her ongoing effort to balance her public persona with a private life she fiercely protects.
