Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan returned to theatres with Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, which registered a solid opening at the box office on its first day of release. Directed by David Dhawan, the family entertainer emerged as the strongest performer among this week's new releases, giving the comedy-drama a positive start to its theatrical run.
According to industry estimates, the film earned ₹7.50 crore net in India on its opening day across 9,081 shows. Its domestic gross collection stood at approximately ₹9 crore, while overseas markets contributed around ₹2 crore, taking the worldwide gross collection to an estimated ₹11 crore on Day 1.
The film recorded an overall occupancy of 20.15 percent. While morning shows opened modestly, audience turnout improved steadily through the day. Afternoon, evening and night screenings witnessed stronger attendance, with major contributions coming from key markets including Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Jaipur and Chennai.

The romantic comedy outperformed fellow Friday release Bandar, starring Bobby Deol. The prison drama reportedly collected around ₹50 lakh net on its opening day, significantly trailing Varun Dhawan's film in terms of box-office earnings and audience reach.
Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai revolves around a married couple facing relationship challenges as differing priorities push them towards divorce. The film stars Varun Dhawan alongside Mrunal Thakur and Pooja Hegde in lead roles. With a promising opening weekend ahead, trade analysts will closely watch whether the film can sustain momentum and convert its strong start into a successful box-office run.
