Alpha, the upcoming spy thriller starring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari, has received clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) ahead of its theatrical release, with the board directing the makers to tone down several violent scenes and modify certain dialogues before granting certification. According to the CBFC certificate dated June 29, 2026, the Hindi-language film, which includes English subtitles, has been awarded a UA 16+ certificate. The Shiv Rawail-directed film, produced by Yash Raj Films, has an approved runtime of 140 minutes and 48 seconds (2 hours, 20 minutes and 48 seconds).
The certification comes just days before the film is scheduled to hit theatres. As part of the certification process, the CBFC recommended several edits to reduce the intensity of violence depicted in the film. According to reports, visuals appearing at 25 minutes and 49 seconds were replaced with alternate shots. The board also instructed the makers to modify a multiple stabbing sequence appearing at 1 hour, 36 minutes and 41 seconds, replacing portions of the original footage with less graphic visuals to moderate its impact.
Apart from the violent sequences, the CBFC also directed the filmmakers to remove a foul word from the film's dialogue. The board's recommendations were implemented before the certificate was issued, enabling the film to proceed towards its scheduled theatrical release. Such modifications are routinely suggested by the CBFC to ensure films comply with certification guidelines based on age classification.

Alpha marks the first female-led instalment in Yash Raj Films' expanding Spy Universe, with Alia Bhatt and Sharvari playing the lead roles. The film has generated significant anticipation as it introduces a new chapter in the production house's action franchise, which has previously featured films led by characters portrayed by Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Hrithik Roshan.
Directed by Shiv Rawail, Alpha is expected to combine high-octane action with espionage-driven storytelling. The film has been positioned as a major addition to YRF's slate, with the studio aiming to expand its interconnected spy universe through female protagonists. Promotional material released so far has highlighted action sequences, international locations and large-scale production values.
The CBFC's certification clears the final regulatory hurdle before the film's release, allowing the makers to proceed with distribution and promotional activities. While the mandated edits slightly reduce the intensity of certain action scenes, the overall narrative and runtime remain largely unchanged. With certification now complete, Alpha is set to arrive in cinemas as one of the year's most anticipated Hindi releases.
