Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president Nitin Nabin on Tuesday set an ambitious electoral target for the party in Telangana, declaring that it aims to form the government in the state after the 2028 Assembly elections and establish a "double-engine government." Addressing a Booth Pramukh Sammelan in Warangal, Nabin urged party workers to intensify grassroots outreach, saying the BJP would rely on its organisational strength and public support to expand its political footprint in the state.
Speaking to booth-level functionaries, Nabin said the BJP's association with Telangana was rooted in the struggles of its people and the commitment of party workers. Recalling the party's early electoral presence in the region, he noted that Telangana had elected the BJP's first Member of Parliament from the area in 1984. He asserted that the party would build on that legacy and work towards securing power in the state. "Relying on the struggles of the people of Telangana and BJP workers, in 2028 we will form a double-engine government in Telangana as well. This is our resolve," he said, calling on workers to strengthen the organisation at the booth level and connect with every household.
Outlining the BJP's long-term political strategy, Nabin said the party would seek to revive the aspirations that led to the creation of Telangana as a separate state. He argued that the vision behind the state's formation had gradually been diluted and claimed that people were increasingly looking to the BJP as a credible alternative. According to him, the party's growth in Telangana would be driven by the dedication of its cadre and sustained engagement with voters over the coming years.

Nabin also launched a sharp attack on the Congress government in Telangana, accusing it of failing to fulfil several key election promises. He alleged that the government had not delivered on its commitment to provide two lakh jobs and claimed that the administration had become an "ATM" for the Congress leadership in New Delhi. Criticising what he described as the Congress's "promise and forget" politics, he further accused the party of encouraging dynastic leadership instead of focusing on governance and public welfare.
The BJP has been steadily attempting to strengthen its presence in Telangana over the past few years, positioning itself as the principal challenger to both the Congress and the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS). While the Congress returned to power in the state following the 2023 Assembly elections, the BJP has continued to invest in organisational expansion, particularly at the booth and district levels. Party leaders have repeatedly emphasised cadre-building exercises and public outreach programmes as part of their strategy to improve electoral performance in future state and local body elections.
With the next Telangana Assembly election scheduled for 2028, Nabin's remarks underscore the BJP's intent to begin preparations well in advance. By focusing on booth-level mobilisation and attacking the ruling Congress over governance and unfulfilled promises, the party is seeking to consolidate support across the state. Whether this strategy translates into electoral gains will depend on the BJP's ability to expand its organisational network, sustain voter engagement and present itself as a viable governing alternative over the next several years.
