Apple TV+ has officially renewed its hit thriller series Severance for a third season, confirming the news on March 21, 2025. The announcement followed a playful exchange on social media between executive producer and director Ben Stiller and Apple CEO Tim Cook, where Stiller inquired about the renewal, and Cook replied, “Severance season 3 is available upon request.”
Despite the confirmed renewal, no release date for the new season has been revealed, with filming yet to begin.
The renewal comes as no surprise, given Severance’s status as one of Apple TV+’s most-watched series. Dan Erickson, the show’s creator, writer, and executive producer, expressed his excitement about continuing the project. “The idea of getting to make more Severance with the greatest cast and crew on Earth is more thrilling to me than all the world’s finger traps combined. I can’t wait to continue spreading woe, frolic, dread, and malice with these truly incredible people,” he said in a statement.
Ben Stiller also shared his enthusiasm, calling the production one of his most creatively fulfilling experiences. “Making Severance has been one of the most creatively exciting experiences I’ve ever been a part of,” he said. “We’re thrilled to keep telling this story with our amazing cast and crew.”
The critically acclaimed series, which first premiered in 2022, follows employees at Lumon Industries who undergo a controversial procedure to separate their work and personal memories. Starring Adam Scott, Patricia Arquette, and John Turturro, Severance has built a dedicated fan base with its mind-bending narrative and suspenseful storytelling.
Season two, which concluded with a gripping finale, left audiences eager for answers about Mark S. (played by Scott) and his colleagues. With the creative team already planning the next installment, anticipation for Severance Season 3 is at an all-time high.
