Veteran British actor Anthony Head, known for his extensive work in television and theatre, has died at the age of 72. His daughters, Daisy and Emily, confirmed that he passed away due to complications from pneumonia, describing his death as peaceful and noting that he was surrounded by family. The announcement was made through a statement to the Press Association in the United Kingdom, which was later reported by international media outlets.
Anthony was best known globally for his role as Rupert Giles in the hit television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer. He appeared in all seven seasons of the show, portraying a mentor and father figure to Buffy Summers. His performance became one of the most recognisable elements of the series and helped establish him as a familiar face to audiences worldwide during the show’s run.
In later years, he reached a new generation of viewers through his role as Rupert Mannion in Ted Lasso. In the Apple TV+ comedy-drama, his character was a former football club owner whose decisions often created conflict within AFC Richmond. The role reintroduced him to global audiences and reinforced his reputation for portraying complex, authoritative characters.
