Alicia Silverstone is set to reprise her iconic role as Cher Horowitz in a new ‘Clueless’ sequel series currently in development at Peacock, nearly three decades after the beloved 1995 teen classic first hit screens.
As per Variety, the project remains in early stages, with plot details tightly under wraps. The sequel series will be penned by Jordan Weiss (Dollface), Josh Schwartz, and Stephanie Savage—best known for their work on teen dramas like ‘The O.C.’ and ‘Gossip Girl’. Amy Heckerling, the original film’s writer and director, will return as executive producer.
‘Clueless’, loosely inspired by Jane Austen’s 1815 novel ‘Emma’, followed the life of a stylish and well-meaning Beverly Hills teenager navigating friendships, fashion, and matchmaking misadventures. The film, which also starred Paul Rudd and the late Brittany Murphy, was a surprise box office hit and became a pop culture phenomenon, cementing its place as a cult classic.

The story previously spawned a TV series in 1996, which retained much of the cast except for Silverstone, and was more recently adapted into a stage musical that premiered on the West End earlier this year. Silverstone delighted fans by revisiting her character in a 2023 Super Bowl commercial for Rakuten.
Since Clueless, Silverstone’s career has included roles in ‘Batman & Robin’, ‘Blast from the Past’, and more recent indie projects like ‘The Killing of a Sacred Deer and Reptile’. She is also set to reunite with director Yorgos Lanthimos for his upcoming film ‘Bugonia’, alongside Emma Stone, and stars in a forthcoming Netflix Christmas romcom opposite Oliver Hudson.
The new ‘Clueless’ series promises to bring Cher back into the spotlight, offering a fresh take for longtime fans and a new generation alike.
