The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has appointed Sudhakar Malli as Executive Director (ED), effective October 1, 2026. The central bank announced the appointment in a release issued on Friday, October 2.
Before taking charge as Executive Director, Malli was serving as Chief General Manager-in-Charge of the RBI’s Department of Supervision. The department is responsible for overseeing regulated entities and monitoring their compliance with applicable regulatory requirements.
Malli’s appointment comes as part of the RBI’s senior leadership structure, with Executive Directors overseeing key departments and functions of the central bank. The position involves responsibilities related to policy implementation, regulation, supervision and other areas assigned by the RBI.

During his tenure with the Department of Supervision, Malli held a senior role within the central bank’s supervisory framework. His elevation to Executive Director places him among the RBI’s senior-most officials responsible for managing important operational and regulatory functions.
The RBI, headquartered in Mumbai, is India’s central banking institution and is responsible for monetary policy, regulation and supervision of the banking and financial system, management of foreign exchange and currency issuance. Malli’s appointment as Executive Director took effect from October 1, 2026.
